School Programs
Did You Know? The Did You Know? series was developed by the museum in 2007, with financial support from the Huron Shores Humanities Council and Rogers City Kiwanis. Each school in the county was provided a set of 25 short stories from the history of Presque Isle County. Each story is accompanied by one or more illustrations. The stories can be used by teachers in a variety of ways. Each story and photo is laminated, and teachers can feel free to make copies for classroom use, or distribution to students. They’re great “take home” items, as the parents of the students are also likely to find them interesting. Twenty-five more stories and
photos will be provided to schools this year, and additional stories will
be added each ensuing year.
The History of Presque Isle County The History of Presque Isle County Chapter One: The Lumber Era Chapter Two: The Limestone Era In 2007, the museum also produced two slide shows on the history of Presque Isle County. The slide shows are contained on two CD’s that will run in virtually any computer. Students can view the slides themselves, or the slides can be projected on a screen using a digital projector. Each CD is accompanied by an extensive Teacher’s Guide that contains additional information about the topic covered on each slide. Museum Visits Teachers are always encouraged to bring their classes to the museum. Guided tours of from 45-90 minutes can be arranged anytime Monday through Friday. The museum needs at least a week’s advance notice of a visit to make arrangements for docents. The layout of the museum dictates that classes must be broken into groups of 6-10. There is no charge for this service. In fact, if we had the money we would pay teachers to bring their classes to our museum!
